I've done two cycles of HST.

First was done with a few tweaks, that I thought would be benificial, and the results were medicore.

The second (presently just starting 5's) I followed the recommendations exactly and it has been great! I've been cutting and haven't dropped a pound(IOW successfully recomp'ing). I've been progressing well and feel terrific in the gym. Only supps are HEAT Stack and Phenogen from Avant (with the regular Vitamins/Multi/Fish Oil).

I really love it - at least when starting with 5 reps.
It gave my buddy and me the possibility to gain a good ammount of mucle without juice.

it is a very good program.

i liked it for cutting more than bulking but i am sure if diet was adjusted you could bulk on it just fine as well.

solid science behind it for sure.

Me, too!

Although, I think there's no disputing the science behind it, I couldn't recover fast enough to go through 3 whole body workouts a week.

Did I go too hard/too much?

I did a total of 4 sets per major body part each workout.

1 - 2 sets max, per body part per workout, 3x a week. 4 is way too much.

Be well.

I still use something similar.

I could never go back to regular training splits after HST.

I've done a few by the book HST cycles but these days I just apply the general principles (progressive loading and somewhat increased frequency), even though sometimes I stay several weeks on five's\negatives with drop sets. When I eat right nd actually go regularly to the gym the results are very good.

Never had any joint issues.

Without gear, HST gives strength. With, I have no knowledge, but the basic principles are the same as always

HST is now being called RYP I think, RYP is the last HST version by the guy.
