According to the BMI scale, I am 1.4 points away from being clinically obese. I am in the upper range of overweight. Yet, according to the acceptable bodyfat percentages, I am in the lower range of normal (12-15 %) approaching the upper range of lean. And I'm just an amature. I'm sure some of the competitors out there are super lean AND super obese all at the same time! So let's here it. Who is BMI OBESE! Speak up you fat cows! :pound:

I saw where Emmitt Smith was Clinically Obese back in '98. Made all those Defenders look stupid not being able to catch that little fat fuck. BMI is a joke.

it's a complete joke...mostly based on old life insurance height/weight ratios that were established in the 60's or something...I once (in '99) had a nearly knockdown drag out fight with an idiotic Dr. over this very subject...who I went to for a sinus infection btw...at the time I was approaching (about 20 weeks out) my 1st (and only) competition and in EXTREMELY good condition 5'10.5" around 218/220lbs and just starting cutting with healthy blood profiles an extremely low resting heart rate...excellent cholesterol and BP numbers, etc...and this clown was literally YELLING at me about my obesity...telling me how I was almost morbidly obese...etc etc etc...too funny...but at the time I was waaay pissed...

Couldn't he SEE that you weren't fat? I posted that kinda jokingly - never thought a doctor would actually be so dense. That sucks man. Hope you never went back to that quack.

BMI is useful for people who don't work out. If you sit your a** on a coach and your BMI shows you're obese, then you are. If you hit the gym hard and train right and your BMI says you'r obese, you're not. Last time I checked, if my BMI said I am obese and I have an 8-pack, I don't care. Maybe if I get super obese I'll get a special handicapped sticker for my car so I can park closer to the GNC from now on.

I'm amazed how so many stupid MD's still use this outdated method to determine obesity. BMI doesn't take into account larger bone density or muscle hypertrophy above the norm. Get your bodyfat tested, preferably with hydrostatic testing. Males above 25% and females above 32% are considered overweight by most experts.

The last few years I was in the military, I had to be taped every time we did PT Tests, 5'9, 210lbs, 31" waist, and I could run the two miles faster than most, but it still had to be done... Just silly how outdated everything is...

All I need is a few more pounds and I can do the same thing those grossly fat ass, electric-cart-riding behemoths do... BEST IDEA EVER! Speedster is my hero. :whoo:

At 5'8" and 225 I am considered obse by the BMI. Nevermind the 32 inch waist, striations, and all those funny looking veins. I'm just a fat f*ck. :yo:

Basically as most have responded, if you have more muscle mass than the average person (which probably everyone on this board has), BMI classfications are going to be extremely inaccurate. Stick to BF%
