This seems like the right stategy but looking for feedback.Last full meal 3 to 3 1/2 hours prior(any sooner,to much blood being used for digestion not enough for muscle pump),and 30 minutes prior, drink with 15-25 gs whey and 25-75 g.s longer acting carbs, amount of carbs varying depending on weather you are cutting, maintaining, or bulking.Sound reasonable?
sounds reasonable to me. I normally prefer a smaller meal as opposed to the liquids though.
Anyone follow the "sip on protein/creatine shake throughout your workout" philosophy?
I may have done that years back but not now..water is all I drink during training.

Actualy yes.
And it definitely has had a positive effect on my energy levels during my workouts.
However, I don't do it all the time.
I can sort of just tell if my body needs it/can use it on any given given workout.
Really depends on what I'm training and what and when the last time I ate was.
I'm talking more of taking small sips than anything, and only as required.
There is always the issue of taking in too much, say just before squats where it will succeed in hindering you more than anything if you ingest too much.
You really have to play this one by ear and know your body well.
I guess I really do this one by feel.
The theory regarding not eating before a workout because the blood goes to the stomach instead of the muscles is another BS bodybuilding myth imo. Eat when you feel it will give you the best workout. If thats 3 hrs prior, then cool.
Personally i eat 45mins before training because i feel it gives me the most energy and i hate being hungry.
I also feel it's a complete myth that your digestion takes up so much blood that your muscle's fail to get a pump. BS.
i eat 1 hour before training when i have to work after, and about 1.5-2 hours prior when i dont work after and have extra time

I do the same thing.
Great, thanks for all the input guys. I have been basically just sipping one during my "lighter" days and when i feel i need it more. Can't do it on leg day or back day except near the end for a bit of energy boost as needed. Basically have found there is no right or wrong way for anything, it is all trial and error and as my body adapts, what worked at one point may not work again. I have found my body adapts to not just my lifting but my nutrition in terms of timing as well and the less "routine" i keep the better off i am.

When it comes to nutrition in general, it's far better to be consistent in general then to worry about pre-post workout nutrition, IMO. Some guy's are stressed about what to eat prior and and after a workout, then go out and eat shit food the rest of the night !
Not good! 🙂
i agree that consistency is key and that pre and post workout nutrition is not the be all and end all of nutrition, however, they are two of the most important meals of the day, along with breakfast and they are the easiest to get right
carb supps, whey protein and maybe some vitamins are all that is needed for the pre and post workout meals, which is as easy as it gets... so i wouldnt slack on those... better to get those two right and slack on everything else, than it is to slack on everything!

hehe your just out to correct me today! 😛
They are important, but if your not consistent all day, then they're isnt nearly as much advantage as there could be
