I told my pharmacist the other day that I was using Nizoral to combat DHT at the scalp. The pharmacist just looked at me like I had a third eye growing out of my head. He told me it was dangerous stuff, use it only for what it's labeled for. Now I realize these are intensely conservative people when it comes to dispensing advise, but I held it as accepted wisdom that Nizoral was being used more and more for DHT/Androgen blocking at the scalp.

How much, and how often do you guys use Nizoral? Have you ever noticed any BAD sides? I haven't.

Is the pharmacist just misinformed? Or overly cautious?

I use it EOD. Except mine is a 2% sloution not the 1% in the stores. I also use xandrox (a minoxidil solution) ED. No side except dry scalp. The alzaic acid in my shampoo washes away not only the DHT but the scalps sebum. It's not a problem at all as long as you use it EOD and use a shampoo like Head&shoulders intensive care or any shampoo with zinc or selenium in it.

Just to the scalp. I use a little ( half teaspoon ) with a little regular shampoo.

I use 2% to combat dandruff about 2 times per week, I think it's highly overrated it diens't work very well on my dandruff and to combat DHT I would try finasteride

I use the OTC 1 percent stuff. Every few days with some minox at night. Only sides are it makes ur hair kinda dry and your scalp itch a bit. Since adding it to my arsenal I have found a few less hairs laying about 🙂 Nothing spectacular tho. Hairloss battling is like a combined thing. Lookin at Saw Pallmento soon as well. Might try it.

One thing you will find about your basic doctors and general practitioners is that they are well misinformed about a lot of products. They have a one track mind and strictly use things for their labeled purposes. Most of what we have come to know in our community doctors will disagree with completely...You will see this over time.

i use it eod when on, every third day when off. i use head and shoulders in between. for every third day i just have 3 shampoo bottles and rotate them so i can keep track, who the hell can think straight early in the morning.
also use spironolactone in the evening when on and minoxidil in the morning when on.
when off i rotate them nightly.

Right now I have been usig Nizoral on Monday morn and H&S Wed morn.
Regular shampoo the rest of the time.

Avodart is supposed to be like Propecia but I have noticed some starnge side effects - now dont laugh or flame me BUT my nipples seem tender.
The doctor says it will go away once my body adjusts.

I dont know if i can last.

Anyone else use it ???

fasttich if you don't have a problem with your scalp or hair, i would not go near nizoral, your pharmacist is not so stupid he gave you good advice, don't go looking for trouble, its not some benign susbtance that works like a miracle, don't use it just for the hell lof it. the guy gave you a responsible answer.

both 1%/2% didn't do shit with combating my hairloss! what it did do is made my scalp super dry and my hair became very brittle!

I'd like to add for those using nizoral, especially Xandrox brand (w/alzaic acid) EOD is good but on your off days get some Head&Shoulders intensive care. This has selenium in it and will get rid of the dry itchy scalp right away. I use minoxidil (xandrox brand cause it has a few more things in it) on top of the nizoral and do not have any itchy problems. It's worth a try.
