you hear a lot of people in BB, even pros are eating rediculous amounts of red meat.... I'm hearing like up to 2lbs. a day. To me, that just sounds crazy and not to mention dangerous for the long term. Me personally, I eat 3 to 5 meals of red meat, usually steak, a week. Even doing cardio on a regular basis, I think that 2lbs. a day is bad. I just was curious what opinions where out there on this topic.
Really just depends on the cut of beef. Sirloin is very lean. However, if you were eating T-bones/porterhouses every meal that would probably raise some health concerns.
I eat about a cow or so every week. I love beef. Probably why my cholest. is over 400. But my BP and ekg is fine. Got big arteries I guess.
mmmmmmmmmm..........steak...........
I eat around I pound a day, but what I eat is 96/4 ground beef. The entire pound has only about 16 grams of fat and almost 90 grams of pro.
I was a lacto-ovo veg for about 12 years. Some decent gains in fat loss but nothing spectacular for muscle mass. Then I married an Asian who cooks three different kinds of meat every meal (and fish) because having a meal without meat, means you have no money. My gains have been greater. I am off the chicken because of the avian flu scare here. The "beef" is usually water buffalo which is lean, the pork is good and a little bit of dog here and there seems to put more bark in my bite. More kinds of fish than you can imagine and the market down the street has live fish, eels, crabs and damn near everything else that could be remotely be considered edible. I rarely eat vegetables now and when I do, it's som tam/pappaya salat, which is heavily spiced. Meat is making it for me.
I'm not bringing up this topic because of fat calories in red meat. A couple of you are saying because its lean red meat it is okay.... the cholesterol is what I'm talking about, long term effects. It just seems that this sport has gotten to such a level that long term health hazards don't matter anymore.
Cholesterol levels are as dependant on your body's production of it, as what you eat. That, is determined by genetics and how much your gall badder makes. You can do everything right and still be over 200. You can do everything wrong and be under it. I was at 137 as a lacto-ovo veg, now I am at 149 as a carnivore. I will be dying of Alzheimer's long before the cholesterol gets me.
Up the good cholesterol to counter the bad. It's the balance that's most important. Cholesterol and fat are far too misunderstood and demonized. People on long term high fat and cholesterol, low carb diets have been shown in studies to have comparable blood work. In some cases better. It all been a "big fat lie!"
I will be dying of Alzheimer's long before the cholesterol gets me. hehehe
